RICHARD MANDELLA TEAMS WITH HIBISCUS STABLES AS PRIMARY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TRAINER OF 2-YEAR-OLDS
Mahopac, New York-based company teams with Richard Mandella to offer Southern California Circuit Thoroughbred partnerships

Mahopac, NY, April 16, 2013 – Hibiscus Stables has announced an agreement with Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella to train its Southern California based horses as part of its continued West Coast expansion.

Following a successful 2012 season where Hibiscus Stables partnerships experienced a 22% win rate and nearly 50% in-the-money percentage, Hibiscus Stables is now, in 2013, in the midst of a 42% win rate and over 70% in-the-money percentage. Using this success as a springboard Hibiscus Stables will further expand its reach on the West Coast in 2013 by teaming up with Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella. Mandella has been training horses since 1974 and has campaigned Breeders Cup winners Kotashaan (FR), Phone Chatter, Johar, Halfbridled, Pleasantly Perfect, Action This Day, and Beholder along with numerous other graded stakes winners including 4 champions. As a trainer Richard has won more than 1,930 races including 17 million-dollar races and has earned over $120,000,000 in purses. He was inducted to the Racing Hall of Fame in 2001.

Hibiscus Stables CEO Mike Oliveto said, “We’ve got some aggressive plans for 2013 and further cementing a presence in Southern California is one of them. There's world class racing at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar. Richard has been a major presence on that circuit for decades and we couldn’t be more honored to have him as part of the team. It’s crucial that we enter relationships with individuals that believe in our program and, like Rick Violette, Richard is very enthusiastic about what we’re doing. Richard will begin by training our 2-year-old colt who’s a half-brother to the multiple stakes winner King Henny. This colt was hand-selected for Hibiscus Stables by legendary horseman Greg Gilchrist. Gilchrist said, “Of all the horses that we looked at in the Fasig-Tipton October Sale, this horse was by far the best looking of them all. He was at the very top of my short list. His conformation is impeccable. He’s one of the most well-balanced horses that you’ll see. His walk is impressive and he has a fantastic stride. Additionally, in watching how he behaves and how he conducts himself it’s evident that he’s very smart. I’m elated that we were able to get him. He possesses everything you look for in a racehorse.”

In 2012, Hibiscus Stables successfully offered partnerships for the Northeast circuit and in Northern California. Oliveto credits a unique approach to partnerships, which includes a strong focus on the partners themselves and open communication on strategy, news, and a constant stream of information sharing. Partners are kept up to date on all facets of the business through newsletters, phone calls, and on-track meetings which creates a true “partner” experience for all owners.

Hibiscus Stables is currently assembling members for new partnerships for the 2013 season. The horses acquired for these partnerships are 2-year-olds and will be raced on the Southern California circuit including Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar. Other new 2013 partnerships are forming with horses trained by Rick Violette that will race on the New York circuit which includes Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga race tracks.
